The Labours

I wrestle with a maternity pillow, moving between still poses where the boundaries of my body and the pillow blur. The piece is an exploration of the maternal body as furniture- a place of comfort and rest, support for the body of another.

The tangled limbs reflect the uniquely intimate relationship with one‘s child, and the still poses reveal the awkward temporality of being „nap-trapped“.

Bio.

Frankie Cluney
I have worked as a freelance artists‘ model for the past 15 years- so much of my works takes the form of the tableau vivant. I use art historical references along with costuming and still poses to create narratives that explore politics of gender and sexuality.

Current work explores the shifting purpose of the maternal body, having become a mother last year. I work with photographic self portraiture, and digital platforms as performance space.
I Graduated from West Dean College with a distinction diploma in Art and Contemporary Craft.
